Xiling Seal Engraving Society was founded in 1904 in Guangxu of Qing Dynasty. It is the oldest existing literati Association in China and the earliest professional academic group of gold and stone seal engraving established at home and abroad.
Xiling Yinshe is situated at the foot of Gushan Mountain in Xihu Scenic Area, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, from south to Baidi, near Xiling Bridge in the West and West Lake in the north. It covers an area of 7088.86 square meters and has a total building area of 1749.77 square meters. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit. The site includes many ancient buildings of Ming and Qing Dynasties, with elegant gardens, unique scenery, rich humanistic landscape and cliff inscriptions everywhere. It has the reputation of "the most successful lake and mountain".
Xiling Seal Engraving Society was founded by Ding Ren, Wang Yu, Wu Yin and Ye Ming, who are the Seal Engravers of Zhejiang School. In 1913, Wu Changshuo, a great artist in modern times, became the first president of the society. Under his great reputation, the world's printers were flying toward the wind. He Jing, Wanlu, Changtai Yushan, a famous artist in the East, came back from the sea. At that time, the elites gathered. All the members of the society were outstanding masters of seal cutting, calligraphy and painting, collection, archaeology, literature and history. The successive presidents are Wu Changshuo, Ma Heng, Zhang Zongxiang, Sha Menghai, Zhao Puchu, Qigong and Rao Zongyi. As of December 2018, Xiling Printing Society has 507 members (including 46 honorary members), distributed in nearly 30 provinces (municipalities), autonomous regions, Hong Kong, Macao Special Administrative Region, Taiwan, as well as Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, the United States, France, Sweden, Canada and other countries.
