Mulberry extract  1-Deoxynojirimycin (DNJ）, C6H13NO4, 163.17 g/mol), an alkaloid azasugar or iminosugar,is a biologically active natural compound that exists in mulberry leaves and Commelina communis(dayflower) as well as from several bacterial strains such as Bacillus and Streptomyces species.DNJ is a well known inhibitor of α-glucosidase, an enzyme that is involved in the early stages of the N-linked glycoprotein synthesis pathway

1-Deoxynojirimycin function:
1) Inhibits α-glucosidase and delay the absorption of glucose to the blood;

2) Inhibits virus growth due to suppression of glycoprotein synthesis in ER lumen;

3) has a whitening effect due to suppression of melanin synthesis in melanocyte;

4) DNJ is a broad-spectrum RNA and DNA antiviral agent.
