What is CICLO?
• CiCLO is a master batch additive available from Intrinsic Advance Materials (IAM).
• Successfully adapted for Polyester and Nylon.
• Biophilic polymer formulation
• Mainly organic macromolecules, similar structure & properties to the base synthetic fiber
• CiCLO does not chemically bond with the polymer but sits in the spaces between the polymer structure.
• Added at 1% to 2% during melt extrusion
• Permanently and uniformly embedded in matrix of the plastic
What are its advantages?
• Reducing synthetic textile accumulation in landfills; or
• Reducing synthetic microfiber pollution in our oceans; or
• Utilizing proprietary technology to reduce plastic waste in landfills and
plastic pollution in our oceans; or
• Leading innovative efforts to reduce the environmental impact of synthetic microfiber pollution and unrecycled textiles.
ASTM D5511 Test Results @ 1278 days Anaerobic Biodegradation of CiCLO Polyester(If in landfills)
• Fabric with 1% CiCLO proceeds to biodegrade fully.
• CiCLO material shows 91% biodegradation with the remaining few percent attributed to carbon incorporated into the biomass.
• While the rate of biodegradation slows down after a few hundred days, the curve indicates that biodegradation does continue to progress over time.
• The cellulose control sample has greater than 70% biodegradation within 30 days, which is a basic requirement for the ASTM D5511 test.
• The negative control sample and the Non-CiCLOpolyester sample do not show any significant biodegradation in the long-term tests.
